Saffron threads from L’Aquila in our Premium pack


The famous saffron from L’Aquila differs from other types for its erect and not hanging stigmas. The bulbs are put underground between July and August and start flower in October.

The blooms are picked early in the morning when they are still half-closed for protecting the precious stigmas.

The harvest is made exclusively by hand, then the stigmas are dehydrated by the heat of burning oak or almond wood.

To obtain 1 kg of dried Saffron are needed about 150.000 flowers and more than 500 working hours.
